Jonathan Freedland has a profoundly depressing article in today's Guardian on the increasingly likely prospects of the Republicans winning in November.

If you are a Billionaire who wants to pay even less tax, vote Republican. If you are a Creationist who's into book burning, vote Republican. If you like war, vote Republican. But if you vote Republican because you think the VP is 'plain spoken'; then it's time to hand back your voter registration card you fucking moron.

Unfortunately what happens in America impacts on the rest of us. But, even though we can't vote, we can contribute; by challenging the lies and smears that infest the internet. Here on Vox, and other sites you'll find hundreds of budding swiftboaters smearing Obama.

You're right - it is a depressing article. I don't know what to say really, Freedland expressed it well, but I wonder if America can afford to ignore the rest of the world when its economy is so fragile? The thought of the Republicans retaining office feels more than depressing, it feels insulting. Conversely, if Obama were to win I don't think it would be too extreme to say that it could energise the whole world.

That is indeed depressing.
